Healthier Pets. Happier People. Better World. Petco’s vision played a pivotal role in the design of our San Antonio Support Center (SSC). The entire facility was intentionally designed to reflect these values.
Open environment. We’ve built out the interior of the facility with an open design that creates and fosters a collaborative work environment. We’ve created work areas that are open and inviting for all associates; we have very few actual offices in the building.
Rover Walk. Interior design inspired by San Antonio’s River Walk.
Pet-friendly. We encourage Petco associates to bring their pets to work both at the San Antonio Support Center and at our National Support Center in San Diego. The SSC features indoor and outdoor pet play areas, constructed to promote a safe and friendly environment for pets. We believe having pets in the workplace is not only beneficial to the pet, it also provides a wonderful source of stress relief for our associates during their work day.
People-friendly. The facility provides built-in opportunities for exercise, relaxation and fun, intentionally designed for the long-term health and happiness of our associates. Associates can gather in a gaming and lounge area to relax, have fun and get to know one another, catch up in corner cafes designed to feel like a neighborhood coffee shop and socialize through lunch in an a modern and open lunch room. The facility’s fitness center is scheduled to open in early 2012. Within a year, the SSC will also feature an on-site food service vendor with a “grab & go” counter service for associates.
Sustainable space. Several progressive design features went into making our offices environmentally-friendly. The facility utilizes high-efficiency HVAC units on an energy management system. Lighting throughout the building is energy-efficient, zoned and on automatic timers. We positioned most offices and conference rooms on the interior of the building, taking advantage of an abundance of natural light. We also used earth-friendly building materials such as low-VOC paints, recycled vinyl flooring and locally-produced stone, in addition to water-saving fixtures and hand-dryers in the rest rooms. The SSC also features dual-monitor work stations and consolidated copy centers to reduce printing, and a co-mingling recycle program.
Technology of the times. We’ve equipped the SSC with leading-edge technology to make communication and collaboration easy. Our associates enjoy the benefits of videoconferencing, digital displays, instant voice, video and text messaging, desktop sharing, online meeting software, a state-of-the-art training facility and more.
Associates. When fully staffed, the more than 100,000 square-foot SSC will house 400+ associates in a variety of functions, including finance and accounting, human resources, internal audit, loss prevention, risk management, and ethics and compliance. Today, there are approximately 120 associates employed in the facility.
